Shopping My Wardrobe

For Some New Outfits.

I don't know whether it is something to be slightly sheepish about or hold my head up high and brag about, but a lot of items in  my wardrobe were a good buy, discounted, sale, charity or given to me. It's not that I won't pay full price for an item I love and think is worth it , but if there is a deal to have ...why not?

However, sometimes I have saved and splurged on something I love and just know I have to have. It then gets worn to death. I am not known for keeping things hanging in the wardrobe for long!

I love clothes, but I also like to change what I am wearing and I am fickle.

What is a favourite, "I will love forever dress" today, may not be right next month.

As I have got older I have learnt to accept that this is part of who I am. I like to dress nicely. I feel better about myself then. It is not particularly for anyone else, although I do feel more confident around others if I am dressed in something I feel ok in.

SO .....

if I buy clothes .. and oh I do.... YES I do,  (Far more so than my husband who would rather have the money for a good meal out) then it makes sense to try and make my money go further by making full use of the lovely clothes I already have.

With a new season finally arriving ( Spring for those of you still not sure if it is) I am starting a new series of posts at the beginning of each week. They are going to be called:

SHOPPING MY WARDROBE

I shall post some outfits from my existing wardrobe that in combination I feel are good quality and a good deal. I am hoping this will help me rediscover some of the great items I already have. I may of course, add a few new things in along the way!

Here is the first:

The grass has been cut since taking this picture!

A Jackpot green linen jacket - half price in the sale two years ago £45 (similar)
Lined sleeveless blouse - charity £2.00 this year
Baxter Jeans from Topshop in Black - £40 this year ( Buy here )
Dorothy Perkin Wedges - £20 sale bargain this year ( Sale wedges here )
Gap Green Bag - sale £29.99 ( Gap sale

I had forgotten about this Jackpot jacket, but it is a great Spring jacket - lightweight , but enough to keep warm here in the UK. It is a lovely dusky pale green linen. I got it at half price and wouldn't have even tried it on except my husband picked it off the shelf for me.

I love the neutral tones of this outfit, but am enjoying the emerald green bag to brighten things up. I have discovered Topshop Baxter jeans this year - a great price and fit . I have been back and got some grey Baxters too.....for £40 I'm not saying no!

I live in wedges. I can't walk in proper heels, so it's flats or wedges for me. These neutral wedge shoes will see me through that phase that is between boot and sandal weather. I am not quite tough enough to go straight from boots to flip flops like some of my friends are!

I have packed away my winter woolies now and made the change to some of my Spring and Summer clothes. The weather is slowly warming up here , but it's been a long old winter this year.

Have you got your Spring/Summer wardrobe out yet or are you hanging on to your winter warmers for a little longer?

A little Emerald Bag

And a Mint Candy Manicure

I wasn't sure that I would be jumping on the emerald band wagon this season. It just didn't rock my boat like coral did last year...until I spied this little leather bag on sale in Gap.

It will be ideal for my essentials when I teach or for days when I am just popping out and don't need to take the kitchen sink with me!

Essie Mint Candy goes very nicely with it too - thank you very much.

The little things!

Have a lovely weekend.

No 7 Mineral Perfection Loose Powder Blusher

Wednesday Beauty Buys

This loose powder blusher is from the No7 range in Boots.

There is always an offer on that brings the price of their make up down . I managed to catch a couple of offers that meant the items were extremely reasonable. The offers were Buy One get the second Half Price and also for each purchase you could get £3 off  if you had a voucher.

As I was buying  four items it was best to buy two first - get the half price deal and use the £3 off voucher I had on the first two and I was then given another voucher that I could use to purchase my next items - again one half price and £3 off.

The ladies in Boots are used to me and are very willing to always help me out.

My other items were 2 eye shadows and a nail polish. I worked out that I paid 50p for one of the eye shadows with the deal. The nail polish cost me nothing and the second eye shadow only £6 - bargain.

In other words what would have cost me £28 cost me £16!

The powder blusher retails at £9 and you can buy it here.

The powder blusher comes with a little brush which is surprisingly effective. I think I would use this if I took the blusher out in my bag as I tend to use my Real Techniques brushes at home. The No7 brush does tend to shed it's bristles on occasion which I do find annoying, but apart from that this is a great little product .

You swirl a little of the powder around in the lid and apply to the cheeks. A little tip to the ladies who find their cheeks are not as pert as they once were. I don't agree with the applying of blusher to the apple of your cheeks - this is why.

If it is going southwards anyway why enhance it?

This is a lovely pale and subtle pink - perfect for summer. It may be too pale for those who are darker tone skin, but I love the pale sweep of colour it adds.

It lasts well and you can build the colour to make it a little richer if you wish.

This is a lovely product - my first I have really tried from No 7 and I am actually very impressed. I will be going back for more.

What is your favourite summer blush?

How do you apply your blush? Apple of the cheeks or not?

April Birch Box

  In Bloom

This month's Birchbox arrived just in time to put a smile on my face. I always knew I would find the noise, dirt and general destruction at the start of this building project a little difficult to deal with, so was glad of my little treat this month.

The title of this month's box is

IN BLOOM

The only bloom I feel at the moment is BLOOMING FREEZING as we have no gas and hence no heating, but I will give it a go.....

The Contents

  • Gerda Sillmann  Renaisance Age Serum - Antioxidant enriched Serum Full Size would be £69  . OOOO this is lovely! A small sample - but I have a great little collection of small "high end " samples now that I use to give my skin a boost when needed. Absorbs straight away and leaves skin super soft. Yum.

  • La Societe Parisienne De Savons  Soap - A retro looking soap. Full size worth £8.50  Great for a guest basket or bathroom. Smells lovely.

  • Mirenesse  Glossy Kiss - Sheer but buildable lip colour. Full size worth £17.50. My favourite in the months box. It is a lovely coral colour and very pigmented. Lasts well and is great to apply. A winner. ( See additional pictures below)

  • Welda  Skin Food - VB swears by this moisturiser which softens dry heels and elbows with ease ! I can understand why - this is going to be in my cupboard from now on! Full size would be £8.95 Bargain.

  • Natio - Gentle foaming facial cleanser - This omits lathering chemicals that can leave skin feeling taut and dry. Ive not tried it yet, but sounds good. Full size would be £6.50

  • EXTRA Paname Paris Mirror - a useful mirror for the handbag worth £7.50 ( is a mirror worth £7.50?)- I nearly got myself a little mirror last week - glad I didn't - this is fine!

The Birchbox mag with a handy nail tutorial - perfect.

Mirenesse. Perfect Kiss

My two favourites that I would consider buying from this months box are :

The Mirenesse Perfect Kiss
Weldas Skin food

I am becoming less judgemental about the contents of these boxes each month and just enjoying the treats I get sent. I love trying out products that I haven't seen before and are not readily available on the high street. Since Birch box took over I do feel I get more than value for money each month as well.
