It's beginning to take shape

 Update #2

It's been an interesting few weeks on our building project. At the end of the first week we discovered (as we thought we would) that there was a problem with our existing foundations and we had to have some underpining work done. Huge holes were dug and lorry loads of concrete pumped in to secure the existing building and prepare for the new extension. It was a frantic day which was not helped by the fact that the concrete company delivered the wrong consistency of concrete that started going "off" too quickly. The builders had to work at an amazing speed to get the concrete down. I am really impressed with the way they work so far. They have achieved so much in a couple of weeks.

You can now see the outline of the new build taking shape. By the end of today the floors will be down and the wall at the side of the drive will be up. We will then have a template of what will be here at the end of 6 months. They have yet to knock through into the house to join the old with the new. That will come further down the line. I know that will be a messy time. At the moment the inside of the house is pretty much protected from the mess - as long as we keep the windows closed. I must say that they are the tidiest builders I have ever known!

There is a long way to go I know, but it is exciting to see progress.

  1. WOW. That's brilliant - that's come on along way. And very exciting. You must be able to really visualise it all now, now that the foundations are being out in place :o).

  4. Oh, I'm having builders next door at the moment so I can't say I'm enamoured of the subject, but what needs to be done needs to be done. ;)

    1. I know , it isn't the best for the neighbours :( Ours have been so brilliant about it all and we have tried to talk them all through it every step. Next door down the way had theirs done two years ago so they really understand! I think everyone else is just glad we are tidying up the mess that was there before! Hope your neighbours are being considerate to you! X
