Shopping My Wardrobe

For Some New Outfits.

I don't know whether it is something to be slightly sheepish about or hold my head up high and brag about, but a lot of items in  my wardrobe were a good buy, discounted, sale, charity or given to me. It's not that I won't pay full price for an item I love and think is worth it , but if there is a deal to have ...why not? 

However, sometimes I have saved and splurged on something I love and just know I have to have. It then gets worn to death. I am not known for keeping things hanging in the wardrobe for long!

I love clothes, but I also like to change what I am wearing and I am fickle.

What is a favourite, "I will love forever dress" today, may not be right next month.

As I have got older I have learnt to accept that this is part of who I am. I like to dress nicely. I feel better about myself then. It is not particularly for anyone else, although I do feel more confident around others if I am dressed in something I feel ok in.

SO .....

if I buy clothes .. and oh I do.... YES I do,  (Far more so than my husband who would rather have the money for a good meal out) then it makes sense to try and make my money go further by making full use of the lovely clothes I already have.

With a new season finally arriving ( Spring for those of you still not sure if it is) I am starting a new series of posts at the beginning of each week. They are going to be called:

SHOPPING MY WARDROBE

I shall post some outfits from my existing wardrobe that in combination I feel are good quality and a good deal. I am hoping this will help me rediscover some of the great items I already have. I may of course, add a few new things in along the way!

I had forgotten about this Jackpot jacket, but it is a great Spring jacket - lightweight , but enough to keep warm here in the UK. It is a lovely dusky pale green linen. I got it at half price and wouldn't have even tried it on except my husband picked it off the shelf for me. 

I love the neutral tones of this outfit, but am enjoying the emerald green bag to brighten things up. I have discovered Topshop Baxter jeans this year - a great price and fit . I have been back and got some grey Baxters too.....for £40 I'm not saying no!

I live in wedges. I can't walk in proper heels, so it's flats or wedges for me. These neutral wedge shoes will see me through that phase that is between boot and sandal weather. I am not quite tough enough to go straight from boots to flip flops like some of my friends are!

I have packed away my winter woolies now and made the change to some of my Spring and Summer clothes. The weather is slowly warming up here , but it's been a long old winter this year.

Spring Wardrobe on a Budget

It has to be done. 

I may be working to a tight budget at the moment with bricks and mortar in mind, but a girl's wardrobe is never far from her mind. I cannot ignore for long the lovely colours and fabrics filling the shelves and lookbooks of my favourite stores at the moment. As you know I have been selling on e.bay like a mad woman over the past few months. This is partly to clear clutter and unused items from our house and partly to restyle our new rooms. However, I was clear that if I chose to also sell some clothes and handbags, that money would be to clothe and rehandbag myself.

Rehandbagging? Is that a word? It should be. For bagaholics.

So, I've been on the ball waiting for the deals to arrive and arrive they did.

Style at Any Age tempts me every time with the Baukjen sales.

 I adore their clothes. 

I managed to get a lovely coral blouse and some blue trousers at 40% off on the first day of a diminishing sale. Early bird and all that.

H and M is a great wardrobe filler and always have some codes floating around. I find the store a little messy to navigate so tend to shop online as it is so simple and cheaper with the discount codes. I chose some vibrant blue ankle skimmers, some dark grey skinny summer trousers and an ochre lacy sleevless top which is yet to arrive. I got £5 off and free delivery with the 1304 code. There is usually a 25% off code floating around too if you google it. You can use two codes per basket.

I added to this an ivory lace top from Boden when they had a diminshing money off sale - again on the first day at 20% off and free delivery. A bargain.

I managed to sell two Karen Millen handbags on e.bay this week too and replaced them with a tan bucket bag and matching purse from Marc O Polo from the discount designer site Vente - Privee.

Some lovely spring items to look forward to. I shall post photos when they all arrive.

I am still hankering after this lovely jacket in my favourite grey marl and yellow ( and Sue's from Susie So So? ) , but funds have run out so it will have to wait...

For me being careful and thrifty  is not about being cheap or penny pinching. It is about being wise with our money and making the most out of what we have to get what what we want need. There are some fantastic blogs that deal with living off the absolute minimum budget. We are thankfully through this stage of our lives, but I still like to get the most out of our money. Lets face it children are expensive creatures and we have 3 of them! Being careful in some areas means we can spend more in other areas if we so choose.
