Protect and Detangle

Wednesday Beauty Buys

Beauty Protector

I have gone against a lot of what I have said before in repurchasing this product.

It is a case of " don't throw the baby out with the bath water" . In other words, I don't want to discard every product because I am suspicious of one ingredient - alcohol denat.

This does have alcohol in it, but I shall overlook that for the benefit it seems to give my hair.

My hair is dry at the ends from having colour applied to it and from being blow dried and straightened at regular intervals. I find a great shampoo and conditioner helps, but to keep it conditioned, shiny and tangle free when I am styling it this has been the only product lately that has worked.

I don't know what it is that is in it that makes such a difference, but my hair is really soft and shiny and easy to manage when styling.

I got my product through the Birchbox shop here. I don't think it retails on the High Street.

I am also using two great mousses for volume lift at the roots. Phyto Intense Volume Mousse  - review here and a new sample I am trying which I LOVE. Sebastian Mousse Forte. It keeps touchable volume with no dryness, on day 2 as well. I shall be tempted to buy a bottle when my sample runs out! You can get this reduced on Beauty Bay here.

What hair styling products are you loving at the moment?

Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipsticks

Wednesday Beauty Buys

I do have a bit of a love affair with lip colours.

I picked these two up before our camping trip as I had hear they had a good moisture content and they last.

They are now my favourite product.

I am not so keen on the bling, bling package - shiny purple is not really my thing, but the tops stay put in your purse. So many of these great lip products have rubbish lids that come off letting the lip colour then decorate the inside of your bag so that is a big plus.

Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipsticks

They are not sticky or greasy and wet like some of the dupe chubby lip pencils out there. They apply like a normal lipstick, but feel so much smoother and glide on. They are not as "chapstick like" as some as the lip butters as they have a firmer, more consistent feel. The colour is deeply pigmented and really does last.

I went for Coral Queen ( of course) and Amethyst Shimmer - a deep red/pink with a bit of shimmer to it.

I shall be adding to my collection when Boots have another offer on. They retail at a bargain £6.29 and when you have a buy one get one free offer on they are worth every penny! You can get these just about anywhere that sell Rimmel. I got mine from Boots.

Wednesday Beauty Buys - Boots 3 for 2

Bourjois Lip Products

Boots often have a 3 for 2 offer on certain brands or on their skincare. This is a good time to stock up on your usual creams and potions as it saves money in the long term.

It is also a good opportunity to grab a few lipsticks you have had your eye on for a more reasonable price. I had some points to spend on my Boots card and with the 3 for 2 offer had this lot covered.

I particularly wanted to try the Shine Edition ( silver package) as the consistency is similar to the Revlon Lip Butters that I adore, but without the glittery bits that sometimes can be a little too much in the lip butters.

  1. Bourgois Shine Edition 23
  2. Bourgois Colour Boost 01  Red Sunrise
  3. Rouge Edition 18

The Shine Edition lip colour is a lovely alternative to the lip butters . It is quite a "wet" product to apply, but is absorbed quickly into the lips leaving a lovely soft colour with a subtle shine. This is not too 'gloss like' either which I like. I would get more colours in this.

The Colour Boost pencil is a great watermelon red . It is a little soft to apply and the staying power isn't great, but it is easy to carry in your bag and to reapply when needed. I probably wouldn't buy from this range again unless they had a colour that was unavailable in other similar ranges that have better staying power.

The Rouge Edition is more of a traditional lipstick texture, although I was a little disappointed in the staying power. I prefer Rimmels Moisture Renew range, which has the added benefit of hyaluronic acid in it, to this so I probably wouldn't buy from this range again.

Have you tried any of the Bourgois lip products ?

You can buy these products from Boots .

Ren Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask

Wednesday Beauty Buys

Ren Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask

I held off buying this mask despite the amazing reviews I kept reading .

I have been really strict with myself about finishing off my products before buying any more. I have also had a clear out of items that I am never going to use, not ever. Sometimes there is just no point using up the cupboard space to store them.

This is a hefty £30 and although it claims to renew the complexion and dramtically improve skin tone amongst other things, I simply couldn't justify it. However, my dermalogica microfoliant came to an end and I had a run of work come in so I decided to bite the bullet and give it a go.

You cleanse your skin as normal then apply the product which is a dark yellow, gel like substance, all over the face and neck. You leave for 10 minutes and then remove with a damp cloth.

Oh my word.

 I wish I hadn't waited!

My skin immediately looked and felt tighter and firmer. It was smoother and the lines were  definitely reduced even after one use! My make up went on like a dream for a couple of days after I had used this mask as well. At the moment I am using this once a week. I do experience some tingling after use which is normal because of the strength of the product. It is not recommended for very sensitive skin, but I have fairly sensitive skin and I am fine with it. As with all products it is best to test a small area first to see if it causes irritation or reaction.

Ren is a naturally based company and their products are free from skin unfriendly synthetic ingredients. You can read all about Ren here.

I have some birthday money to spend in John Lewis and am going to head straight to the Ren counter to try some more of their products out. My cleansers are nearly gone so watch this space.

Have you tried this mask yet?

What did you think?

Worth My Pennies?

I tend to focus on skin care when I spend money and it is not often I buy a lot of make up. Earlier this year I decided to try a couple of items that I had seen raved about and looked really good value for money.

1.Mua Pallete Undressed and Undress Me Too.

I would love to have all of the Urban Decay Palettes, but as I can't, these will do for now. The pigment in the matt colours is poor, but buildable. The pigment in the shimmer colours is fabulous as you can see in the swatches. I have swatched just a few colours to give an idea of the quality. These are great little palettes for just £4 a pop. They are definitely worth the money.

Mua Palettes

Top Shop Highlighter

This looks very yellow in the photo, but you actualy only need a light dusting of this to give a little highlight to your cheek bones. This is a lovely highlighter and definitely worth the £10 price tag. Sometimes the whiter based highlighters are just too cold on my skin and this is a much warmer product for the summer months. The swatch is a heavy ( 3 - 4 coats) layer. You really only need a light dusting and it gives a lovely golden hue.

Top Shop Highlighter Sunbeam

Beauty Blender ( Dupe)

This is amazing! I never thought it would do the job that everyone said it would. Oh I am getting so suspicious in my old age! It really does give an even finish to whatever you put on your skin, foundations, tinted moisturisers, BBs, concealers etc and is so, so easy to use. I only picked this up as it was at TK Maxx for £4.99. It is not the official Beauty Blender - just a dupe, but it does a brilliant job and my skin looks so much better for it. You immerse in water, squeeze out in a towel and then use to apply your make up. Perfect. I am hooked!

Beauty Blender ( Dupe)

So for once all three products are getting the thumbs up from me . My favourite has to be the Beauty Blender. I thought it was a gimmick, but I have been proven wrong!
