I do have a bit of a love affair with lip colours.

I picked these two up before our camping trip as I had hear they had a good moisture content and they last.

They are now my favourite product.

I am not so keen on the bling, bling package - shiny purple is not really my thing, but the tops stay put in your purse. So many of these great lip products have rubbish lids that come off letting the lip colour then decorate the inside of your bag so that is a big plus.

Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipsticks

They are not sticky or greasy and wet like some of the dupe chubby lip pencils out there. They apply like a normal lipstick, but feel so much smoother and glide on. They are not as "chapstick like" as some as the lip butters as they have a firmer, more consistent feel. The colour is deeply pigmented and really does last.

I went for Coral Queen ( of course) and Amethyst Shimmer - a deep red/pink with a bit of shimmer to it.

 I shall be adding to my collection when Boots have another offer on. They retail at a bargain £6.29 and when you have a buy one get one free offer on they are worth every penny! You can get these just about anywhere that sell Rimmel. I got mine from Boots.

Nexus 7

The New 7" tablet from Google

I have a tween in my house.

 He spends most of the time we are in the house staring at a screen of some sort, conversing with his friends in a language I no longer understand.

I have come to accept that it is the day in which we live! 

Whether for school work, social media or relaxing, this is the arena in which I have come to look for excellence and suitability for my children when making purchases. If I am to spend money on something it needs to be fit for purpose and  good value for money. 

We have been looking into purchasing a tablet for some time now and this imminent new release from Google has caught my eye. They are priced very competitively starting at around £199 for the 16GB model. This has been billed as a serious competitor for the ipad mini and at the more attractive price I will certainly be considering this instead.

Nexus 7 comes via Android . One of the main benefits for us is that you can share your tablet with your family and friends giving each one a separate customisable space including homescreens, wallpaper, apps, storage etc. This would be ideal for our family and just what I am looking for with 3 growing kids and not the budget or inclination to buy them one each .

This new Nexus 7 tablet is a sleek and simple design. It has a slim body with a thin bezel and a soft touch matte back. It sits easily in the palm of your hand and it looks comfortable to handle. 

Another attractive feature is it's weight, which comes in at just 0.64llbs. This makes it extremely portable and you would be able to slip it into just about any bag. Ideal for my eldest son's long bus ride to and from school.

There are plenty of great cases available to protect and transport this gadget via MobileFun. 


It has up to 9 hours of HD video playback and 10 hours of web browsing - even for tween standards that is pretty good! It is almost twice as fast as it's predecessor which would be a huge plus point with my kids.

The Nexus 7 is just perfect of course for gaming and with the tilt, tap and touch options it is easy to operate. It has a new Play Games App that lets you track your achievements, play with or against your friends around the world and explore new games. My eldest son goes to a school where many of his friends are some distance away. He could feel isolated at weekends and during holidays and this would be a way in which he could keep in touch .

There are of course the options of e.books, radio and songs so if I ever got a look in there would be plenty to keep me entertained.

The Tech Specs

• The Nexus 7 is made by Asus . 

• It has a quad core Qualcomm snapdragon S4 Pro processor and 2GB of RAM. This means everything runs faster and the 3D graphics are dynamic and smooth. 

• You are able to stay connected wherever you are with it's dual-band WI-Fi with the added option of 4GLTE with support for hundreds of networks worldwide.

• It is a nifty little package that comes in a 114 x 200 x 8.65mm size. It has 0.64lbs of Wi-Fi and LTE. 

• The bright and clear display is a smart 7.02" 1920 x 1200 HD scratch resistant screen.

•  It has a battery that gives up to 9 hours of active use and it has wireless charging and QI compatibility .

• The camera is 1.2MP front facing, fixed focus or 5MP rear facing auto focus. It gives fantastically clear and detailed images .

• It has stereo speakers and surround sound that is powered by Fraunhofert

• The processor is a CPU Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 pro, 1.5GHz and GPU, Adreno 320, 400 MHz. It has dual-band wifi ( 2.4G/5G) 802.11 a/b/g/n with Andoid beam and bluetooth.

• You can choose 16GB or 32 GB internal storage with 2GB of RAM.There is optional 4G LTE

• This Nexus 7 tablet has micro USB and is simport enabled.

•  It has 3.5 mm audi and a microphone. 

• It has power and volume buttons. 

• It also features GPS, Gyroscope, Accelerometer, compass and ambient light.

I certainly have been impressed by what I have seen of this tablet and think it is a far more attainable price than it's competitors. 

You can pre order , but it should be available from mid September in the Uk. The release date in the US was the 30th July.

Beauty Routines Part Two

Moisturisers and Serums

This is part two of my series on Routines. You can find Part one " Cleansers and Toners " here.

One of the reasons I get a monthly beauty box is so that I can try different products out and keep my beauty routine up to date and my skin in good condition. As I said in my last post ....

It is important to me.

My mum has not got good skin now and I suspect I will have inherited some of her genes . She did spend years frying herself in the sun so her skin is badly pigmented, but is also very lined and dry. I love my Mum, but I don't think she was ever taught to look after her skin. 

Research shows that the most aging thing on skin is not wrinkles and lines as we think, but pigmentation. Lines and Wrinkles are a natural sign of ageing and are part of your journey and life. If you look after your skin you can make sure that these are not occuring prematurally and that scarring and pigmentation is not showing on your skin either.

As I said in my previous post, I was of that era where suncream was not applied much as a child so I do have some pigmentation from the sun. I have found an amazing little product that has almost got rid of this completely and evened out my skin tone in a quite dramatic way. 

It is Pepta Bright by Indeed. See my review here. I apply this just every night now, but at first did so morning and night! I do agree that with a more even skin tone it takes the pressure off the appearance of wrinkles. I am trying to accept the aging process that seems to speed up once you hit 40. I would quite happily not accept the frown lines and lines around my mouth, but for some reasons the laughter lines don't bother me! 

So after that long preamble onto the moisturisers.

When I have cleansed my face I apply moisturisers, serums and treatments.

Moisturisers

• Dermalogica skin smooting Cream - I always have a tube of this on the go. This is my one consistent product that my skin loves. It has no fragrance and is just perfect.
• Dermalogica skin hydrating booster - this gives my skin  a boost of moisture when needed. It has  a concentrated blend of hyaluronic acid and panthenol glycolipids with algae extract. It really plumps the skin up. I have been using these two demalogica products for years.
• Clinque super defense spf25 daily moisturiser . I got this as a free sample so am using it up. I don't usually use moisturisers with a SPF is as it seems to me they are then trying to do two jobs. I like a moisturiser to concentrate on it's job. I get a separate suncream.
• Carole Franck Phytp Hydrotant face cream - a sample from my birch box. I love this and may buy the full size when I'm finished. It is a lightweight cream for day use.
• Ren night cream - sample - am trying these out off the front of a magazine. Lovely so far!
• Ren day cream- same again!
  
  

Moisturisers

Dermalogica - My go to products

Serums and Treatments 

• Pepta - Bright by indeed. I apply this at night only now. 
• Hydraluron by indeed. This gives your skin a pure dose of hyaluronic acid and helps it to absorb 1000 times more moisture. See my review here. I apply this in the morning after cleansing and toning , but before moisturisers.
• Estee Lauder night repair serum. This is a sample. I would repurchase this. A remodel of this is coming out that already has received rave reviews. I am on the list to get this in August!
• Clarins double serum. I am trying a seven day sample of this, but at the moment am finding it a little heavy for me.

Serums and Hydraluron and Pepta bright

Eye creams

• Sundari Chamomile eye oil
• Wei white lotus eye blend
• Ren radiant eye gel
• Hydro dynamic eye cream

These are all samples that I have been rotating . I find that before I commit to buying I get another sample to use and so never end up having to make a decision about which eye cream to buy!

I adore the Wei eye cream, but it is a little expensive in a full size.

Eye Creams

Morning

My routine in the morning after cleansing is:

Hydraluron
Serum

Moisturiser

Suncream

I use a separate suncream to moisturiser. I agree that they do different things. If you look for a moisturiser with a SPF you are really just paying for an expensive suncream. I think it is better to buy a great moisturiser and a separate suncream that will do the job it is meant to do.

I am using this at the moment. It is a factor 50+ . I know some people say it is not necessary to use such a high factor on your face as we need a bit of sun. I feel too vulnerable about sun damage on my face so will stick with this and let the sun get to the rest of me instead! This is not greasy and soaks in well so it does not interfere with make up application.

Evening

My evening routine after double cleansing and toning is:

Eye Cream
Pepta- bright
Hydrating booster oil
Moisturiser

Moisturisers and serums are a minefield. There is just so much choice it can be befuddling. I have brands that I trust and return to time and time again when my skin is not behaving. Dermalogica is one of these. If my skin is dry or irritated I return to a simple routine using mainly Dermalogica products. The skin smoothing cream is a hard product to beat .

As with other products , I always ask for samples to try before I commit to buy.

I am still to find a day serum that I really love and adore - all suggestions gratefully received . I love trying out new products!

Beauty Tip Of The Day

Putting my Mask On!

This is my most favourite mask EVER!

AFTER I have taken it off of course.

So the tip this Saturday is:

 Pop a mask on for 10 minutes first thing in the morning.

 These natural based acid masks reveal a brighter skin in just 10 minutes. I have had so many comments from people who know me saying my skin is looking different. I don't know whether to be complimented or worried about how dull it was looking before. Even my husband said , "Your skin looks great."  He doesn't even notice when I change my hair colour so something must be different!

I apply it all over my face and as close to the eye area as I dare. Just not IN the eye! I find this mask gives me the same result as when I used to pay for regular £60 facials before children . Now they are an occasional treat.

Giving yourself a bit of time is hard, almost impossible with kids, but I am determined to carve out a bit of me time!

Bucket List

Money Supermarket Competition 

I was nominated by Helen at The Flaky Fashionita to take part in The Money Supermarket Bucket List Competition

This suits me down to the ground at the moment as you know as all our spare funds have been piled into our house renovations that have just happened to hit a few unexpected issues ....

foundations anyone?

I have never written a Bucket List before. It seemed to be something that you would do when you knew your life was to be coming to an end, but as I think about it that is too late isn't it?

I know I have dreams of things 

                       I would love to do, 

                           to share with people,

                                         to experience. 

Putting them down on paper somehow makes them become more of a possibility . 

Something I could perhaps do one day, if I so chose had the funds.

I will confess to writing a list by hand first. Typing on the keyboard just seemed too impersonal . I let my imagination go and tried not to limit myself by cost - boy I found that hard. 

Once a bargain hunter, always a bargain hunter!

Many of the points on my list are to do with seeing the World. We live in a sleepy little village and for the past 12 years we have happily settled here raising our kids. My feet are a little itchy now. 

The world is calling. 

I would love to explore it together with my family and experience the next stage of our journey together. 

Where would I start? 

Well,I have a friend who is taking a trip to America next week . I have never been. I would love to go with my children and husband. To take them to see the major cities and experience the size of the place! I would love to see Fall in New England . Apparently the eruption of colour, although brief is just the greatest show on Earth. With it's white steeples and clapboard homes New England is the place to see it. 

I would take in a Broadway musical and make sure I was around for New York restaurant week. We would travel to the Pipeline masters in Hawaii and see the amazing power of the surf.

 Oh I could go on - I have a list within a list here.

For now I have asked my friend to pick me up a couple of tubes of mascara that you can't get over here as a little treat! Tame in comparison, but I am really excited about that. 

I have also asked her just to price up a bag I have been eyeing up for months:

I hear it is cheaper over there. She won't be buying it for me, but it is on my bucket list. Silly , but a special bag brings me a sense of inner harmony and feeling of organisation for months.

Yet not everything on my list is expensive either.

 I would love to have a morning with my Dad  again, with him not talking rubbish and so obviously away with the fairies. I would like to take him out for a stroll in the sunshine without him struggling to stay on his feet. I would buy him a lunch of different cheeses and while away the time talking about the things that don't matter at all. I know this can't happen because of his health now, but it is on my list and he still loves the sunshine and cheese so I can fulfil a little of the dream and imagine what could have been.

So - there we have three things on my bucket list. Maybe I should publish the whole list? I surprised myself with the amount of things I would like to do and have . The description of my dream walk in wardrobe is really quite detailed!

It is amazing what comes tumbling out when you give yourself time to look inside beyond the busyness of everyday life.
