Coral Craze

Or should I say "Crazy about Coral?"

I spent last summer enjoying the trend of coral, not only in items of clothing , but on my nails too.

I seem to have gathered an impressive little collection of similar shades of coral, but do you know what?

Not one quite ticks the box.

I know, I KNOW!

They are either too orange, or too pink. That elusive pale pinky , orange ummmmm coral shade is just not there yet.

In the photo are:

  • Essie Boat House
  • Essie Cute as a button
  • Essie Fifth Avenue
  • Rimmel 60 Seconds 415 Instyle Coral
  • Rimmel 60 Seconds 405 Rose Libertine
  • Maybelline Forever strong Hot Salsa
  • Mua Bright Coral
  • Maybelline Color Show Coral Craze

I did try and get a cheap shade earlier this year that I thought was the closest to the colour I have in my head. First I tried a 60 second shade for £3.49 from Rimmel called Instyle Coral . It dries really quickly and lasts well, but it was umm, well, pink. Next was  Coral Craze from Maybeliene for £3.49. The right coral colour, but it just doesn't goes on that well. A bit lumpy and well, you know, I am, ummm, a bit fussy.

Coral Craze - a bit lumpy?
But a great colour?
So I returned to one of my favourite brands of polishes - Essie- this is  Fifth Avenue     . It is quite a bright coral, but goes on beautifully . Look how many Essie coral colours I've yet to explore!

The added benefit of the Essie polishes are that you can buy many of them at a reduced price starting from £2.95 from Cheap Smells. It is free delivery in the UK.

I then stumbled across an old friend whilst out shopping - Jessica. I had forgotten how lovely these polishes are and I believe an old love affair may have been rekindled by this shade...

I know it looks similar in shade to the Essie polish, but it is paler and more delicate than in the picture.

Do you have a perfect coral shade to tell me about?

If you haven't entered my Giveaway you can enter here. It runs until the 9th of April.

Nail Varnish

I had a small splurge at Superdrug over the weekend as they have a 3 for 2 offer on  Maybeline's nail varnish ranges. I selected from the Forever Strong range and the Express Finish range. I am pretty hard on my nails and I find this range is as good as any varnish I have tried.

I selected three colours, although I am not sure the green will get a full outing with me having tried it on once! A little daring for me, but a lovely vibrant colour none the less!

Sable Rose, Soft Doux, Turquoise Green

This is how they look on:

Sable Rose
Soft Doux
Turquoise Green

I also always use Essie 3 in 1 base and top coat and as I cannot wait around for them to dry as there is always a child demanding something of me ( and I am not a very patient , sit around type of person!!) I love OPI's Rapi Dry Top Coat. It really does mean you can leave the house in minutes!! It is pricey at £13.25, but lasts for ages and for me worth every penny. Again available at Boots!

Wednesday Beauty Buys

4 Way Block

I discovered this 4 way block at Boots a couple of weeks ago and at only £2 a pop I'm loving it. The shape is so easy to hold whilst filing nails and it has four elements to the block so there is no chopping and changing around. It does the job perfectly and is a lovely shape to work with . I am sure there are more expensive versions as always on the market, but I am happy to replace this one when needed for the price it is when it wears out. The elements are :

1. File nail edge
2. Remove ridges
3. Smooth nail
4. Shine nail

Here are some photos of a new product and an existing one that I've already used.

A great little product Boots!

Nails

Shellac - Goes on like a polish, sets like a gel, removed in minutes!

It is official - I am addicted! This is amazing for a busy mum of three who cannot get her nails to last more than a day or so. This was done today by Sian's Beauty Box and will last me two weeks at least - for some it lasts up to four! I'm just pretty hard on my nails and also quite particular so I like them re done every two - three weeks really! It is painted on much the same as a polish , but dried under a lamp - they are not false nails. They are dry straight away and do not chip or break. This cost me £18. Not bad for a nail tidy and Shellac polish. I am more than happy to pay that for the convenience and trouble free maintenance of my nails.

Any one else tried this out? How did you find it?

Low Maintenance Beauty.

False Eyelashes , Shellac Nails and St. Tropez Self Tan

Is there such a thing as low maintenance beauty? I think we'd like to believe there is, but to get a few weeks of less input you have to do a bit of work!! So - I've invested in some extra eyelashes for the first time to avoid the constant mascara dilemma on the beach and a shellac manicure. That and some St. Tropez self tan and I feel almost presentable. The close up is a little scary -  but look at the lashes! Love them. They should last two - three  weeks before they need infilling.
