BirchBox

August

Birchbox have teamed up with Instyle magazine this month and have a great selection of products to try again.

I have found that I have changed a few items over the year in my skin and hair care routine due to products that I have discovered through this box. I look forward to it every month. Already the hair oil has become a bit of a favourite this month, but I have just spent my birchbox points so will make this sample last as long as I can!

Bluemandarines skinLife Energetic Cellular Cream

Montibel.lo Gold oil essence

Gerda Spillman Hydro Pearls

LAQA& Co Lip Pencil

Molton Brown Body Wash

Propercorn - Fiery Worcester Sauce and Sun Dried Tomato

BirchBox Gel Mask

My last order from Birchbox was for some hair detangler that I have fallen in love with and some hair ties. At first glance I thought the hair ties were a rip off when one arrived in my box, but I can't do without them now. They are so gentle on your hair. In my order were two complimentary gifts too. A mirror and eyebrow curler!

You can order from Birchbox here.

Camping as a Holiday

A Good Idea ?

We went away camping last week.

If you have been reading my blog over the last year you will remember my reluctance to participate in this crazy English obsession.

It is not that I dislike the idea of sleeping under canvas or alfresco eating. In fact the idea rather appeals.

It is just that I think it is only the English who would persist when the heavens open , to huddle together in a field , under a thin piece of material with only an open flame to cook on , with crazy children for company, fighting in a confined space.

It is just so weather dependant.

And in England the weather is NOT that dependable.

However, this year we had Sun, Sun, Sun and it was the best holiday we have had for a long time.

I am still overrun with washing, in a house devastated by building works , but we had time to reconnect as a family and spend time together, just being.

The kids relaxed and we found that the tensions fell off them too and they were good to be around again - I suspect this had something greatly to do with the fact that we were relaxed with them .

The camping was basic.

The children are not that clean.

I relied greatly on dry shampoo and hairbands.

BUT...we returned home, tired, dirty, refreshed and ready for the next chapter.......

Seche Restore

Wednesday Beauty Buys

Squeeze a little more life out of your favourite polish!

I had a few polishes that were no longer available and although they had product left in the bottle their consistency was becomming a little gloopy . I know the old wives tale of adding some remover to thin it, but I find this makes it weak and the polish chips quickly.

We have all heard about the Bloggers favourite Top Coat Seche Vite, but have you tried their version of restoring your favourite polishes, Seche Restore? You just add a few drops , shake and voila!

It seems to have worked so far for me.....

Have you tried any more of the Seche products?

I did have the base coat, but dropped it on the floor and it is no more. I have reverted back to a base coat from Essie instead that is doing a cracking job.

Beauty Routines Part Three

Morning

This is part three of my Beauty routine posts. You can read about some of the products I use here and here.

This is my current morning routine.

  • I cleanse with Clinque Take the Day Off cleanser and remove with a flannel and warm running water.
  • I tone with Ren's Clarifying Toner using a cotton wool pad.
  • I follow this with Hydraluron and Dermalogica Skin Smoothing Cream.
  • I let these soak in for a few minutes then apply suncream.
  • I allow these products to sink into my skin whilst I make caffeine coffee.
  • I then  apply my make up.
This may seem a lot to do each morning, but it is like any routine, the more you do it, the quicker it is. I am struggling to find a serum, apart from the hydraluron to use that I am happy with in the morning. The 7 day trial I did with the Clarins serum I found it to be too heavy on my skin.

I get up a little earlier in the morning to give myself time before the children get up to exercise, shower and do my make up. It is important to me so that is what I choose to do.

I am also a morning person which helps . It is probably the only time of day in our house that there is quiet - before the children, husband and builders all descend.

It keeps me sane.

Extension Update

A House!

There have been changes, but I will admit I am finding it hard going with the kids off and living amongst the mess and work.

We have had yet more set backs. Something to do with existing lintels, or lack of them above the windows. This has delayed us further and cost yet more, but hey ho I am keeping my eyes fixed on the end result! The kitchen is due to go in mid September - is it too soon to start counting the days?

On a positive note we do have:

Windows

A door or two

Rendered walls

BUT ......   we also have a lot of this

and this

and lots of this -  coming off the house every day!

 And we don't have a roof...yet.

But I will have a kitchen in this room.

Looking from back to front

We are really pleased with the way the builders work and the quality of what they have done. It is just with the kids off and space being limited it is a bit of a tricky time. I think I can say , weather dependent  I am looking forward to a bit of camping and getting away this year!
