Outfits

That didn't cost the Earth

As promised when I did my Charity Shop post a while back, here are a few of the items I have had most wear out of, in some outfit pictures.

I still feel slightly sheepish about putting photos up of myself, but I know I love seeing what  normal, everyday women wear so I'm hoping you feel the same.

I don't see very tall, vey slim  people walking along the street with flawless, wrinkle free skin and the most perfect hair....ever. I like to see the things I am considering buying on real women with different beautiful looks! I love finding new items of clothes and beauty products modelled by stunning real women. I got the coated jeggings after seeing them on Kat at Does My Bum Look 40 in This and  the L'oreal Hair Oil that has changed my life as recommended by Jenny at Beauty and the Biryani . I am hankering after the Boots from Gap that Susie So So wears so perfectly and I love the way The Small Fabric of My Life puts capsules together . These are my fashion and beauty idols.... check them out!

I also have no idea how to pose...actually it's the same in each picture and I've realised what I think is a smile is actually a silly smirk. No wonder I get the wrong reaction from people sometimes. I am practising smiling without looking gormless. Oh and I am debuting my new darker hair colour - a caramel brown, albeit very windswept! I'm no model I know - I've earned my wrinkles though years of laughter and pain and I'm kind of fond of them because of it. However many tummy crunches I do, that last bit of jelly belly will not disappear, but it reminds me of those wonderful pregnancy years and the great kids I have been blessed with. Does it really matter? I can still fit in my wedding dress. Thats an achievement I'm proud of after 3 kids!!!

Some of these items are thrifted from Charity stores, some were gifts and some were purchases in sales or with money off somehow. I have realised that I rarely buy anything full price! I love all the codes and vouchers you can find. Never order anything without checking for them first . Style at Any Age does regular posts with them all listed - superb! See my previous post here on my Charity bargains.

Love these boots - Xmas pressie 2010

I think one of my favourite items of clothing this winter is this little grey skirt from H&M. I got this from the local Hospicare for £4.00 . Such a bargain! It goes with anything, can be smart or casual. I've even worn it over leggings. It is so well made and is lined so hangs beautifully. Best £4.00 I've spent this year!

What item do you have in your winter wardrobe that you couldn't do without?

  1. My wrinkles are coming thick and fast - but I only noticed them this year when I started blogging and I took pictures of myself and gave myself a shock. I never took pictures before and I shied away from every photo going so to suddenly see yourself was quite "enlightening". Anyway, let's slap on the serums and hope for the best - I'm doing my best to age disgracefully. I still can't believe you found that Toast skirt in a charity shop - it looks lovely with the OK top and RB boots - you got the RB boots in a charity shop as well??? Your smizing is going great - still better than mine. With me, it's always "is it a smile,is it a smirk, what is it?". I love the outfit shots - always nice to see the person.

    1. MIne too - wear them with pride I say!! No the R and B Boots weren't a charity one, but Ive had them a few years now so earning their keep. I've labelled the charity finds. I've found some real bargains lately - can't believe the things people give away, although it is for a good cause !! I saw some Jaegar jeans, immaculate, for £4 last week, but they were so long I couldn't have shortened them. I'm only 5.5 so these were for a very tall person !! Hey , maybe we should have a smizing workshop!

  2. Your pictures are fine honey, but I know what you mean and how you feel as I hate taking my photo for the blog and wish I was a natural show off with a size 10 figure but sadly I'm not! Appreciate the link, thank you. With so many codes around at present I am trying to post up every Friday. Agree the blogsphere is a great source of inspiration and I often find myself buying things I wouldn't have looked at before had I not have seen them on another blogger. x

  6. Thanks for the mention Claire! You've put together some great outfits, I really like the H&M skirt - it's my favourite too! Absolutely love the Fly Wedge boots - been after some for a while + seen a gorgeous pair on their website,am considering 'letting' my husband by them for Christmas for me but haven't spent that much on boots in a very long time so don't know if I dare! You look fab in these photos - really natural (and 'the smirk' made me laugh!) your figure looks great + love the new hair colour! I know what you mean though - I feel a complete prat posing for photos - it's really daunting (which is why I either look like a zombie or only put half a face on!)- I once tried to pose for an outfit post in late summer, my hubby took the photo but told me I looked like a crazy woman because of the expression on my face! xx

    1. My fly boots were a Christmas pressie from hubby 2 years ago - they still look like new! Love them! Go for it - they last for years. I feel a right wally too, but the clothes just don't look the same unless someones wearing them and stupidly I do get excited about my little charity bargains - much to my husbands horror at times!! I don't let him see my pictures - automatic delay takes them on the camera! he would just laugh! You ought to do it - If I can you can!!X

    1. Ha - you noticed! Was going to get someone to help me redesign it, but too expensive so have been 'playing' to see what I can add myself! Keep getting things wrong, but thats how I learn by trying it out!! Steep learning curve for my mummyfied brain!

  12. Hello! First time visitor, and I'll happily return to see what you're up to. Very fresh looking outfits, and you should be pleased with yourself. Can't decide which one I like best. I can imagine that you don't look like most of the other mums at drop-off!
I understand your discomfort, but look at these postings as just another way to tutor and that you are doing us a service. I learn from every post I read, and I think that's why we're all here. Well, most of us, anyway!
    Thanks for showing up!
( Item I can't live without for winter: Any of my boots. It's often warm here in winter, but boots can be worn even then to look the season. And they say such interesting things about the wearer, I think.)
