Treasures

What did I find?

Well I survived my little foray into our loft. It is not a job I ever intend doing again. It was shameful what we had up there, shameful. I will be brutally honest and say that the fault lies firmly and squarely at the feet of my husband! Now, I am not in the habit of running him down in his absence, but he would admit it too. He finds it terribly hard to get rid of things, so I have done it for him. There were boxes up there for items that we don't even own any more. I mean a car load of boxes. I will also not admit to how many old duvets I found that my OH has insisted on keeping over the years in case they come in handy.

Gone, gone gone.

I will however confess to a few moments of reminiscing over school books and baby clothes and the one small box of memories that were mine. Sigh, the good old days.

I found the silver locket that my parents gave me on my 16th birthday.

The pearls my Grandy let me have. Real? Not sure. Don't care.Remind me of her.

And this little owl - some things come back into fashion if you keep them long enough!

There were also a collection of things I had put up there for the children - books, shoes in certain sizes, clothes etc and forgotten about. Some I have missed the boat with , but some are perfect for now and the years to come so I'm keeping. The charity shop has benefited from a boot load too . Of course I couldn't drop off at the charity shop without a quick look.

Don't shoot me though - it is from Primark. Recycling at it's best.

    1. I had to tackle it as the roof is coming off with our building work next year and all would have been revealed - I would never have lived down the shame of it! It's amazing the clutter we manage to gather isn't it!?xx

  2. My husband is the same way...he has that 'just in case' mentality, but I want to purge, purge, purge! Too much stuff becomes a burden!
    The locket is precious.

  3. Don't get me started on the clutter we have in the storage room in the basement. I've been meaning to clear that up for years now and as soon as I make an effort some more stuff from the house get piled up here in the basement. One of these days....

  4. You really do need something to spur you on to it - yours is a good reason! I like to think of ours as a treasure trove for the kids to discover when I'm dead and gone! lol…they can clear it up for me :) Axx

  5. What is it with men?! The older they get the more they hoard LOL my hubby is the same, he is slowly turning into his father (who he used to berate for hanging onto everything in sight).

You found some real treasures there, with the exception of the primark skirt ;)

  6. I've done the same thing with bags of hand-me-down clothes for the kids - put them up in the loft and then forgotten about them until the kids are too big to wear them...I'm permanently decluttering this house very slowly but never seem to reach the minimalist end! One day...

  8. My hubby and I are opposite to you and yours - I'm the hoarder, he's the de-clutterer. I'm sure he chucked out my favourite pair of black platform boots years ago before we had our extension done - he insists not but I know he's the culprit! Lovely sentimental pieces you have there - you just can't beat things like that! x

  9. When we cleared out our basement storage room I had more than a few moments reminiscing - it took two weekends instead of one as we kept stopping to look at old photos etc! Surprising what you come across - you must have been thrilled to see your pretty locket again and the gorgeous pearls.I have similar ones from my Grandma - as you say, it doesn't matter whether they are real.
