Shake Weight

Losing the Wobble Arms!

My kids have the greatest sense of humour.

We do spend a lot of time laughing together.

We were in the car yesterday when my middle son had me in stitches without even realising why. We were talking about how it was a little bit sad that we didn't have another younger child to watch grow up now. Our youngest is 6 and everything with her is now the last time . We were reminiscing about what she used to call her brothers when she was small.

She said she would like a younger sister. I said, "No mummy is too old to have another baby now darling." To which my middle son replied...

"Yes, that's why we are getting a puppy!"

I don't know why, but it made me laugh and I am still laughing.

This summer should have been a difficult, crazy summer with all the building work going on, but the sun has shone and that has meant we have not been stuck in the house.

For those of you who live in climates where you get consistent weather I envy you.

It makes such a difference.

I could happily keep my kids off school for longer and carry on with this chilled out existence until the weather breaks. It looks set to continue this week.

Enough rambling!

One of the things the kids have taken to teasing me about, that I am not so happy with, is my arms. I do have strong arms from many years of horse riding and from lifting 3 kids, but as I have have got older they have become less toned. They have a name for me.......

Wobble arms

But I suppose it is better than what they call their Dad........

Flubber belly

Hmmmm.

A little while ago I mentioned that I had started a toning up routine. I will be honest and say that I haven't been the best at it over the summer, but I am getting back into it now with a vengeance. I have struggled with cooking on one ring and have relied on a lot of carbs and seem to have gained a few pounds . I got this shake weight gadget from Tesco for toning up the arms - it comes with a dvd which takes just 6 mins each morning to do.

I find it easy to incorporate this into what I do and have noticed that the wobble arms are less wobbly! I think there is a more expensive version of this and this is a dupe of the real thing, but it works for me. I wasn't sent this to review. I went to the large Tescos 20 miles from us to get it specially - thats how keen I am to get rid of those wobble arms. Here is the super toned look I will achieve when I have done this workout for 50 million years.

I'll show those kids! They'll be thinking of a new name for me yet!!

Bank Holiday Weekend

Catch Up!

What a lovely bank holiday weekend!

We spent a lot of it clearing up and getting on top of some of the sorting we have to do before the next stage of the building work, but still found time to enjoy this glorious sunny weather. We finished the weekend off with a BBQ under the scaffolding!

It was lovely to wake up on a Bank Holiday Monday morning and find that there were no builders here . I needed a day at home , just with family . It has been early mornings all summer here - I just haven't felt able to lie in bed past 7.30am when we have builders in and around the house from the crack of dawn.

I nipped into Boots later in the day, to pick up some Nurofen whilst my middle son was having a tennis lesson . My eye was caught by the Soap and Glory  offer of two items for £15 and I gave in to temptation and grabbed these two. The highlighter was £11 and the quad £10 individually. So whatever way you look at it I got one item greatly reduced. I have been after a couple of eye shadows to replace my favourite Mac ones that are almost at the end. The two colours on the left in the Soap and Glory quad are very similar to these so I snapped them up. Boots also had the added incentive of extra points today - always good in my book!

I have had my eye on this lovely radiance face powder for some time, so decided this would be my second product. It gives a lovely , subtle sheen to the cheek bones. It is not quite as gold as the TopShop one I have already.

Both a nice little treat and pick me up.

I am intent on enjoying every last scrap of the summer this year. It may have something to do with the fact that we will have no heating or kitchen until the end of September so it HAS to stay warm, sunny and generally dry at least until then. We are living in absolute disarray at the moment which has been a steep learning curve for me. I have had to let things slip, allow myself to "not bother" about things I am usually "very bothered" about. It some ways it has been quite freeing. However, it has been hard work, messy and frustrating. I am not sure I would embark on another project ever again!

The main room of the extension - the kitchen, is ready for the plasterers this week and then we are nearing the floor tiles going down and the kitchen going in. We still have a way to go elsewhere, but everything will become easier and less cramped once we have this space done. I am looking forward to posting before and after shots!

.....and the other.

We have had a very simple summer with the kids. A weeks camping, a few day trips, beach days, home days, play dates with friends and generally being in and around the village where we live. The kids have a lot of friends locally and there is always a game of football to be had in the park.

I can't believe it is back to school and work next week .

Too soon.

How was your Bank Holiday Weekend ?

Did you get out and enjoy the mini heatwave?

Cable Tidy Review

Organisation

The privilege of being organised has well and truly gone out the window for me at the moment.

I have a hamster living in my hallway.

My larder is on my lounge floor.

I can hand the builders their tea through a hole in the wall.

However, it won't last forever and this little gadget sent to me by Mobile Fun is rather ingenious.

Cable Tidy by Mobile Fun

I fully intend on creating a "charge station" where we can keep all gadgets that need charging together in one place when the building work is finished. This "Cable Tidy" will be a great addition to keep wires out of the way and gadgets off the surface while they charge. It has many uses . You can use it as a stand too and keep headphones tucked neatly away at the same time. So simple, yet so effective, it was a best seller at The Gadget Show Live 2103. It retails at a reasonable £4.99 at Mobile Fun.

Beauty Routines Part Four

Evening

This is my evening routine. You can read about my morning routine here.

In the evening I always double cleanse to remove make up first. This leaves my skin clear enough to cleanse properly.

  •  First cleanse - At the moment this is with the Clinque Take the Day Off Balm. I use this to remove my make up . You only need a tiny amount of this on your fingertips. You massage it into your skin and on your eye make up and it dissolves the lot. I then add water with my fingertips - just a little and the balm emulsifies . I then remove it with a flannel and running water.
  • Second cleanse - At the moment my second cleanse is with the Clinque Take the Day Off Milk Cleanser. It leaves my skin soft and clean. I use my Priori cleanser when my skin needs a boost - usually about 3 times a week. This Priori cleanser is incredible and I want to add more into my range, but at the moment it is out of my price bracket.
Priori Idebenone cleanser

  • I would like to add a rosewater/hydrating toner in here. I am looking at a few that have been suggested.
  • I apply Ren'e eye gel next.
  • Then Dermalogicas skin hydrating booster with a shot of hydraluronic acid.
  • Pepta Bright by Indeed - a little miracle tube that brightens and reduces pigmentation - I put this everywhere - face, neck and chest.
  • Dermalogica skin smoothing cream - all over face, neck and chest.

Both my morning and evening routine may change slightly depending on how my skin is and whether I am short of time or not. If my skin is particularly dry I may put both Indeed treatments on morning and night. If is it a bit oily I will use my clarifying toner from my morning routine in the evening. I may change the moisturiser from time to time, but the Dermalogica one is my most consistent go to moisturiser.

I have now collected my free 7ml sample of Estee Lauders Revamped Night Serum and I love it! I am using this instead of the Dermalogica booster at the moment. You can get a free sample of this serum with the Beauty of the NIght here . Print off the details and take them to your nearest stockist.

Don't forget The Body Shop also has their 40% off code at the moment or £25 off if you spend more than £50. Codes here.

Protect and Detangle

Wednesday Beauty Buys

Beauty Protector

I have gone against a lot of what I have said before in repurchasing this product.

It is a case of " don't throw the baby out with the bath water" . In other words, I don't want to discard every product because I am suspicious of one ingredient - alcohol denat.

This does have alcohol in it, but I shall overlook that for the benefit it seems to give my hair.

My hair is dry at the ends from having colour applied to it and from being blow dried and straightened at regular intervals. I find a great shampoo and conditioner helps, but to keep it conditioned, shiny and tangle free when I am styling it this has been the only product lately that has worked.

I don't know what it is that is in it that makes such a difference, but my hair is really soft and shiny and easy to manage when styling.

I got my product through the Birchbox shop here. I don't think it retails on the High Street.

I am also using two great mousses for volume lift at the roots. Phyto Intense Volume Mousse  - review here and a new sample I am trying which I LOVE. Sebastian Mousse Forte. It keeps touchable volume with no dryness, on day 2 as well. I shall be tempted to buy a bottle when my sample runs out! You can get this reduced on Beauty Bay here.

What hair styling products are you loving at the moment?
