The Day has come

To take My Dad to his New Home

I don't intend for this blog to become a story about my distress over my Dad, but at the same time I cannot ignore a day like today.

Today we are taking him to his new home.

He seems calm and peaceful.

The home is lovely and my sister works there for part of the week doing night duties as the resident staff nurse.

But ....

It isn't his "home" is it?

Of course we are in bits and the guilt is kicking in.

Will he be accepted?

Will he be judged again?

Will he be happy or confused and agitated?

Is this right for him or just right for us?

I will be spending any spare time I have this week helping my Step Mum settle my Dad into his new surroundings .

I shall be back later in the week in a better frame of mind and I know feeling more positive about the situation, but for now.....

 I just feel sad.

  1. The apprehension is often far worse than the reality Claire. You have had a tough time of it with the care or rather lack of care from certain professionals that you are bound to feel this way. The good news is your sister works there, that is the best insight you can have as to whether your Dad will flourish there. Take it one step at a time, you are all doing well. Take care.

  2. That's a shame...sorry your dad must go into a home, but I hope that he will enjoy it and be around others his age too. Sometimes they are fun places & other times they are not. It's always sad when someone has to go to them, but visits from family will always give him a smile :)) I hope you have a great week xx

  5. Hope everything went ok Claire - it must be so difficult. At least your sister works there so a familiar face for your Dad which surely will help? Thinking about you xx

  7. Thank you all..again! Tough day, but he seems ok for now. I know if he was well he would still be living life to the full ...thats the shame of it. So we take a day at a time now and enjoy what time we have left. Xx
