It is becoming real.....

The work is about to start

The count down to the start date has begun....11 days to lift off and I am feeling a mixture of emotions now as the diggers and demolition crews are hovering ready to start the work.

One of the down sides is once this work starts we will have no gas for 6 months, which means no heating. We had counted on the weather being somewhat warmer by now so we will be relying on the trusty ole log burner to warm our toes until Spring decides to make an appearance.

Cooking becomes interesting too as the gas hob will also be out of action. I have purchased a small induction ring to see me through. I am hoping the BBQ will be used during the summer months. In the words of my middle son..

" Daddy you can use your new BBQ - it's your time to shine!"

I laughed for hours after that little comment.

We lose our utility room so until I find somewhere else for the freezer there will be no batch baking and meals in the freezer - gulp!

The washing machine is being replumbed in the existing tiny kitchen - that was one item I could not do without for 6 months.

However, I am keeping my eyes fixed on the end goal and am making mood boards and plans for the finished look! Here are a few photos of the starting point. It will be interesting to look back at these at the end of the year and compare beginning to end.

These are the garages now that were so full of clutter a few weeks back. We have worked hard to clear them I can tell you!! Both these garages will be gone in a couple of weeks time and in their place will begin the work to build a large kitchen/diner, a utility , boot room and downstairs cloakroom. It will be 6 months at least. I will be updating on a Thursday on the blog, when there is something interesting to update on.

Enjoy your Easter Spring Break and if in the Uk, try and stay warm. X

  1. I hope the work that will get done won't be too bad. I know they usually are, but hopefully it will go well & the weather will be good for you too. It's been sunny up here, though the wind is still chilly. I just hope it will get better and better!! Have a great day xx

  8. Six months does sound like a long time Claire but I bet once they start it'll fly by and you'll have your gas back before you know it! Don't blame you re the washing machine - I (sort of) panic if I'm without mine for a day or two! Plug the freezer in anywhere - you know you want to! xx

    1. I am almost panicking more about the freezer now than the washing machine - oh dear. I'll post a photo of the bizarre place I end up plugging it in - you're right I will!

  10. You are going to be so happy with your end result. I love the line about your husband getting to shine (On the BBQ). Too cute. I'll be crossing my fingers that the work gets done ahead of schedule :)
