Shopping My Wardrobe

For Some New Outfits.

I don't know whether it is something to be slightly sheepish about or hold my head up high and brag about, but a lot of items in  my wardrobe were a good buy, discounted, sale, charity or given to me. It's not that I won't pay full price for an item I love and think is worth it , but if there is a deal to have ...why not?

However, sometimes I have saved and splurged on something I love and just know I have to have. It then gets worn to death. I am not known for keeping things hanging in the wardrobe for long!

I love clothes, but I also like to change what I am wearing and I am fickle.

What is a favourite, "I will love forever dress" today, may not be right next month.

As I have got older I have learnt to accept that this is part of who I am. I like to dress nicely. I feel better about myself then. It is not particularly for anyone else, although I do feel more confident around others if I am dressed in something I feel ok in.

SO .....

if I buy clothes .. and oh I do.... YES I do,  (Far more so than my husband who would rather have the money for a good meal out) then it makes sense to try and make my money go further by making full use of the lovely clothes I already have.

With a new season finally arriving ( Spring for those of you still not sure if it is) I am starting a new series of posts at the beginning of each week. They are going to be called:

SHOPPING MY WARDROBE

I shall post some outfits from my existing wardrobe that in combination I feel are good quality and a good deal. I am hoping this will help me rediscover some of the great items I already have. I may of course, add a few new things in along the way!

Here is the first:

The grass has been cut since taking this picture!

A Jackpot green linen jacket - half price in the sale two years ago £45 (similar)
Lined sleeveless blouse - charity £2.00 this year
Baxter Jeans from Topshop in Black - £40 this year ( Buy here )
Dorothy Perkin Wedges - £20 sale bargain this year ( Sale wedges here )
Gap Green Bag - sale £29.99 ( Gap sale

I had forgotten about this Jackpot jacket, but it is a great Spring jacket - lightweight , but enough to keep warm here in the UK. It is a lovely dusky pale green linen. I got it at half price and wouldn't have even tried it on except my husband picked it off the shelf for me.

I love the neutral tones of this outfit, but am enjoying the emerald green bag to brighten things up. I have discovered Topshop Baxter jeans this year - a great price and fit . I have been back and got some grey Baxters too.....for £40 I'm not saying no!

I live in wedges. I can't walk in proper heels, so it's flats or wedges for me. These neutral wedge shoes will see me through that phase that is between boot and sandal weather. I am not quite tough enough to go straight from boots to flip flops like some of my friends are!

I have packed away my winter woolies now and made the change to some of my Spring and Summer clothes. The weather is slowly warming up here , but it's been a long old winter this year.

Have you got your Spring/Summer wardrobe out yet or are you hanging on to your winter warmers for a little longer?

  6. I think I am a strange old egg because I didn't hesitate to spend a thousand pounds of my husbands money on three handbags in the Harrods sale but I am always on the lookout for a deal or a discount and get a real kick out of a bargain purchase xx

  8. I think you should hold your head up high Claire and be proud! Why spend more than necessary when there are bargains and discounts to be had? Love the outfit - those jeans fit really well. I am a true wedge girl too - always have - those are a great colour! I'm afraid my jumpers have come back out as it's been chilly up here. Great post - love the idea - looking forward to seeing more hidden gems from your wardrobe and then can you come up here and help me out with mine please? ;) xx

    1. I am a bit of a bargain hunter - I wonder if I won the lottery if I would still hunt for bargains? I think it is instilled in me from someone! Wedges rule! X

  9. Love the idea of shopping the wardrobe and it's something I plan to do this summer when I have more time off (actually, I'm retiring in a few weeks so I'll have a lot of time off!). You look wonderful in your outfit. I'm like you in that I prefer wedges over heels most of the time. I don't think I've visited your blog before so I'm glad I found you through the Not Dead Yet blog party!

  10. I love the different shades of green and your jeans fit you like a glove!
Generally speaking we've seen the last of the cold weather here in Nashville so I've been wearing light jackets over tank tops. In another six weeks I'll be complaining about how hot it is.

  11. Every season, I get antsy to pick up a few new things early on. But then, like today, I do some closet diving and what you are doing with old favorites and loves. Every season, I have a few pieces that I wear to rags, and am sad to see them go. Good to have new attachments.
It's a relief to come to the point in life where I don't feel guilty about loving a few pieces of cloth so much. We can if we want. And beauty is where you find it, and if it hides in our closet, that's reason enough to love what's there!
Enjoy, 'cause you look absolutely amazing in this very pretty, elegant outfit you created.

  12. I love the idea behind this kind of post. And yes more of them please - I love seeing what you wear. And you are looking so slim like Ash says. What's your secret? You obviously do not chow down doughnuts like I do.

And if it makes you feel any better ... we've not cut our grass yet. Our lawnmower is broken.

    1. I'm trying to not buy too much ...yearning after too many new things and trying to save money for the build still! We've been doing the Eat Clean diet to lose a few pounds ( actually my husband is trying to lose a stone and a half) . I've lost a bit, but do have a sweet tooth so find that a bit tricky!! I did cut the grass - it was like cutting a meadow - looks worse now as the lawnmower couldn't cope with the length of the grass and chewed it up. Oh well....at least it is shorter, with a few bald patches.
