A Long Week!

I know in the scale of things this may not seem significant, but I just would like to make a small point that I may have had a tiny bit of a rubbish week last week.

No, there hasn't been any great disaster or mishap and the fact that the sun is now shining has made things all  better, but honestly.......

I. Found. Last. Week. Hard.

Just to briefly get it out of my system before moving on....... a combination of a heavy cold, followed by a sickness bug, followed by no heating, followed by a broken laptop, followed by no husband being around, followed by insensitive people doing what insensitive people do, followed by working a bit too much and then a bit more .......led to a bit of overload .

And did I mention , no heating?

 I have been cold.

 Cold = grumpy.

And to those mums who work full time and have young kids and juggle it all. I take my hat off to you.

You are officially INCREDIBLE.

So today I have a day off. I have been looking forward to it ALL last week.

The kids are at school, the husband is away and apart from the builders I have a day to myself.

I intend on enjoying the relative tranquility without demands, apart from endless rounds of builders tea.

I may even indulge in a little gardening.

What do you do to relieve stress and relax on a day you get all to yourself?

  1. For me it is a run followed by a long hot soak with a great book.

  2. There's nothing worse than being cold. Okay there is but being cold is up there high on the list of miserable things. But good that you have a day to yourself to do as you please - we all need them. Working is hard and I'm with you on hats off to working mothers out there - it is stupidly hard to get that right work/homelife balance. I've been picking up on the jewellery a bit in the last week and the house has gone to pot, the blog has gone to pot and .... I have gone to pot too. Hope you have a good day today. Chillax.

    1. That's what I have found - I have dropped so many other things. When I am home with the kids I am rushed off my feet, but I worked every day last week apart from the day I threw up and I was just as busy, but the house was a tip and I felt rubbish. The kids didn't cope :( I need to get the balance and not accept quite as many days teaching. You are right - the balance is hard to get right. I am just thankful I got to stay at home when my kids were tiny.

  3. I just don't know how people work full time even with grown up children! I do 2 very short days and I just about cope with that but had to drastically reduce my hours! The slightest bit of free time I always say I should do something for 'me' (just a potter around a charity shop or Homesense makes me so happy) but in reality I end up doing some housework and food shopping too :( xx I need to change that!

  4. Ps hope you feel better soon and it takes a while to get the right balance when you return to work. Make sure you get a balance that works for you and your children xx

  8. Poor baby. Hope you have a better week going into this one.
Had one of these yesterday myself ... just at odds with the universe and waiting for the other shoe to drop. I chalk it up to free-floating angst absorbed from the aethers.
If there's no going out to dinner with my husband at someone's restaurant other than ours, I try to get something useful but non-challenging done, watch an horrific crime TV series segment (I find them strangely cathartic) and then early bedtime rendezvous with my favorite author. I keep specific books in the queue just for these circumstance.

  9. Oh no - that was a bit too much in one go. The being cold alone would do it for me! Hate that. Hope this week is much improved, helped by having today to yourself. Take care, Ax PS when I need to chill, I hide from the kids (but only when there is another adult in the house. haha!)

  10. Oh dear Claire - hope you are feeling better! It's madness isn't it? And husbands have this bad habit of 'not being around' - I know they can't help it but all the same! The lack of heating would have done my head in! Honestly - it's hard enough to keep on top of things working part time (even working an extra day throws things out) so full time is just not an option. To relax - I go to the gym and then come home and blog/read blogs! Hope you enjoyed your day! xx
