Coral Craze

Or should I say "Crazy about Coral?"

I spent last summer enjoying the trend of coral, not only in items of clothing , but on my nails too.

I seem to have gathered an impressive little collection of similar shades of coral, but do you know what?

Not one quite ticks the box.

I know, I KNOW!

They are either too orange, or too pink. That elusive pale pinky , orange ummmmm coral shade is just not there yet.

In the photo are:

  • Essie Boat House
  • Essie Cute as a button
  • Essie Fifth Avenue
  • Rimmel 60 Seconds 415 Instyle Coral
  • Rimmel 60 Seconds 405 Rose Libertine
  • Maybelline Forever strong Hot Salsa
  • Mua Bright Coral
  • Maybelline Color Show Coral Craze

I did try and get a cheap shade earlier this year that I thought was the closest to the colour I have in my head. First I tried a 60 second shade for £3.49 from Rimmel called Instyle Coral . It dries really quickly and lasts well, but it was umm, well, pink. Next was  Coral Craze from Maybeliene for £3.49. The right coral colour, but it just doesn't goes on that well. A bit lumpy and well, you know, I am, ummm, a bit fussy.

Coral Craze - a bit lumpy?
But a great colour?
So I returned to one of my favourite brands of polishes - Essie- this is  Fifth Avenue     . It is quite a bright coral, but goes on beautifully . Look how many Essie coral colours I've yet to explore!

The added benefit of the Essie polishes are that you can buy many of them at a reduced price starting from £2.95 from Cheap Smells. It is free delivery in the UK.

I then stumbled across an old friend whilst out shopping - Jessica. I had forgotten how lovely these polishes are and I believe an old love affair may have been rekindled by this shade...

I know it looks similar in shade to the Essie polish, but it is paler and more delicate than in the picture.

Do you have a perfect coral shade to tell me about?

If you haven't entered my Giveaway you can enter here. It runs until the 9th of April.

The road is never straight....

My Dad

Once we had moved Dad into his home we knew there would be a period of settling for him ....and for us.

New routines and adjustments to make.

What we didn't expect was the nagging feeling that he wasn't happy . The deep certainty that this just wasn't right.

I couldn't put my finger on it.

The room was lovely.

The staff were pleasant.

The boxes were all ticked.

On one occasion I called in to take Dad out and he had refused to get dressed. He was sat in a darkened room in his pyjamas. I got him dressed, shaved him and hugged him.

He cried.

The next time I went to visit he was confused and disorientated. He didn't even know who I was.

I cried.

He seemed to be losing himself in this place. There was not enough stimulation to keep him focussed and aware. I  know for Dad care is so much more than just meeting his physical needs. He needs to be talked to. Listened to. Considered. Liked. Loved. Entertained. So......

Last weekend we moved him to the most amazing place ever. It may be 3/4 of an hour away , but I feel so thankful we have found it. The people who run this place are angels.

They cut his hair and trimmed his eyebrows and made him look so handsome.  They listened to him play his harmonica and to his stories and told him what an amazing man he is. He cried, but for the right reasons.

They take the residents to the pub in the bus and for walks every day. They have comedy days and garden parties. They have a visiting musician and spa trips. They have activities every morning and afternoon.

WE have to book to see HIM.

HE is the busy one.

He is honoured and cherished and loved when we are not there to do it and I cannot find the words to tell you what that means to me.

Yes, I'd rather he was home and not so far away, but that isn't possible anymore so for now he is in the best place he can be , of that I am sure.

Take a look at his smiling face in my instagram picture in my sidebar.

That's a happy Dad. X

Bloglovin, Instagram, A Giveaway.....

And me....

I have added a new page to my blog layout. I was struggling to fit all the blogs I love on my blogroll on my sidebar. The limit was 25. This sounds a lot, but boy there are some great blogs out there! I was having to rotate them around so I could put all the ones I love on for a period of time. So I have created a permanent page which I will begin to list all the blogs I visit on a regular basis . If you want some blogs to lose yourself in, head on over here.

I am also encouraging my followers to follow on Bloglovin. It is a great way to follow your favourite blogs and you can easily import all the ones you follow from Google reader. All you do is click on your name, settings, scroll down to other and click on import blogs. You then select google reader and they all come chugging over to join you - perfect!

I love the layout of bloglovin. You get a clear list of all your blogs you follow and you can group them into categories so they are easy to find. I know , I know Mrs OCD again. As soon as one of your bloggers add a new post they come onto your home page with a large picture and some text. It is so clear and I find it very easy to navigate. You can opt for what e.mail updates you get. I have one update a day of the blogs who have posted and an e.mail when a new follower joins.

You can check it out here and follow me on bloglovin here or by clicking on the link in the right side bar.

Instagram is a great way of keeping up to date with people's daily lives. I often put snapshots of things as they occur during the day on here, but have only recently started to use it regularly! I  will be keeping account of our house extension as it progresses on Instagram so if you want to follow along you can follow me here or by clicking on the link in the right side bar.

I can't believe it has nearly been a year since I started blogging . I have decided it would be a good time to host my first Giveaway to celebrate this.
So I shall be posting about that next week - I have been gathering some delightful items together and am restraining myself from keeping them! Open to US and UK readers.

Have a lovely and not too wet weekend.
