Benefit Browzings

I am of that generation of brows that have been over plucked like a Christmas turkey ! My older sister has suffered from alopecia where her eyebrows disappeared completely and went down the route of having them tattooed on. We did realise at that point the difference your eyebrows can make to the way your whole face looks.

They frame your face and lift your eyes. I have heard it said that a perfectly groomed and shaped eyebrow is almost as good as having a face lift. Hmmm, well we will see.

I quite like the uncaring approach that some take.....

My eyebrows make a more profound impact on other people than they do on me. I just let 'em grow.

However, I have made a decision to pay a little more attention to this part of my make up routine and I will admit to it making a difference. It does appear frame my eyes ( I have a slightly squinty eye that I am a bit conscious of in photos) and it does finish off my make up and keep what is left of my brows in place. I have tried to use eye shadow to fill my brows and whilst this does the job ok, it does not have staying power and does not keep the hairs in place. So pre Christmas I got a couple of beauty treats. This was the first:

It has a coloured wax and a powder. You apply the wax to keep the brows in place and the powder to fill in the gaps. Alternatively you can mix the products for more colour pay off. There are two small brushes. One small angled brush for the wax and a curved brush for the powder. There is also a small pair of tweezers to tidy up stray hairs.

It is a lovely set, but I feel a little overpriced at £23. It comes in 3 shades, light, medium and dark. I have the medium.

I did feel the brushes were fiddly and somewhat useless and I use my own that do a far better job. The tweezers seem to be something you might get out of a cracker - actually I may keep mine for my homemade Christmas crackers next year. Having said that the wax and powder do a really great job. They don't have great staying power and although would see you through an evening out - a whole day of beautifully sculpted eyebrows would be pushing it!

I shall enjoy using this set and make the most of it, but I won't be repurchasing it so my hunt continues. These are the ones I have my eye on when this runs out.

Too faced brow envy - for the stencil.

Gosh eye Brow Kit SuperDrug - for the price

HD brows - for the flexibility

And a subtly hidden preview of my other little treat that I will be reviewing next Wednesday........

Any guesses....?

  1. I was 32 before I had my eyebrows plucked when I was the "victim" of a Daily Mail makeover.
    The beautician called them caterpillars.
Since then I have been conscious about them and get them waxed every four weeks.

  2. I couldn't imagine loosing my hair or eyebrows, although as a teenager I did over pluck my brows and I pretty much had none...it was a learning experience. But, I think those that have alopecia are brave & I know it can be a tough road for them. Having eyebrows does change your whole face look. I try to keep mine as natural as possible, but tidy. Great products & review...will have to check these out. I hope you had a wonderful New Year's and your new year will be a wonderful one of great happiness and adventures!! xx

    1. It's a learning curve to accept and love yourself when your hair falls out....so brave. My sister lost her eyebrows and some on her head - her hair is still a little thin but ok, her eyebrows never grew back. X

  4. Eyebrows do frame the face, it makes a massive difference if I tint mine as they are fair. I have over plucked brows which don't seem to grow back since I was young, I'm sad about this! I would like tattooed brows, look fab but too expensive x

    1. I like the tattooed brows as long as they are not too dramatic!

  6. I think that eyebrows are so espressive, and a wrong shape can transform completely the face!

  7. *Puts hands up* Guilty as charged, I am a fully paid up member of the over plucked brigade. I fill in my brows every day and I have to say aside from making my face look a whole lot better it is actually the part of my makeup routine I like the most (does that make me sound weird? lol). I use, I think it's the sleek one in light. How odd is that I use it every day and I cannot for the life of me remember the name of it right now! Anyway it looks just like the benefit one. I would try this one as it looks like a pretty good dupe and it is a lot cheaper around about the £5 mark.

    1. I was shocked when I went to pay as the Benefit counter had it labelled as £12 - I even got the cashier to run it through again to check! I went back to the Benefit lady who was as useless as they come and couldn't tell me anything I wanted to know! Losing my patience with them - and their pricing!

  8. Oh yes, I was an over -plucker too. The ones I do have grow too fast and are turning grey...Help me! I draw mine in with a pencil..maybe I should try a powder?
I love your new header, Claire. It looks great! I hope your New Year is off to a fantastic start :)

  9. I sported 'caterpillars' until I was about 30 (I cringe when I look at my close-up wedding pics!). I agree well-groomed brows make such a difference + I now can't leave the house without having 'done' them! Even if you didn't overpluck they still thin out with age! Currently using my HD Brow kit which came in a Glossybox and love it. Will definitely invest in another brow kit - not sure which one though. Threading is great and gives a clean, defined look - need mine doing once I can spend again! xx

  10. Ugh, also guilty of overplucking, I've been wanting to fill mine in more, will have to check some of these products out!!

  11. Excellent review! I nearly shaved off half my eyebrows once. HaHaHa It was hell trying to grow them back. I've tried fillers once, but just like this one they didn't stay or match up very well. I now have someone to do mine. I wish I could suggest a good product, but I haven't tried any. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog. I love yours and hope we can continue to connect. Have a nice evening!

  12. Errr - I had mine done a year ago and never do anything with them though I should but I have a fringe which hides many sins including furrowed foreheads and wrinkles and unplucked brows. I last had mine done a year ago when someone did them by threading - very weird. A bit like someone playing violin on your brows. Okay ... been shamed in to finding the pluckers - think I last used them for a chicken or something.
